Bike-Packing on Oregon Coast

Please join me for a gentle bike-packing trip on the Oregon Coast, starting on Monday, September 23, 2024. I plan to camp at hiker/biker campsites at Oregon state parks, which do not require reservations. It should be easy to change this plan if needed. If you want to join me, but prefer something a little different, let's talk.

If that week looks too rainy on the Coast, we may need to cancel.

My proposed routes are all paved and avoid Highway 101, when possible.

You should bring your own tent and panniers, but we can share my stove. I like to eat at patio-style restaurants or take-out on these adventures, but I carry backpacking dinners and backpacking breakfasts just in case.

You should be prepared to handle normal mechanical challenges on this type of ride. 

Proposed Itinerary:

We will carpool from Bend to near Tenmile Lake County Park Monday morning.

We will park the car and pack up the bikes, riding to Umpqua State Park, about 8-miles away.

Tuesday reverses (so we can access the car if needed), and heads south to Sunset Bay State Park, where we will stay for two nights.

Wednesday is an out-and-back ride, hopefully to Bandon and back, riding light because we can leave most of our stuff in camp.

Thursday takes us back to the car.

9/24 Umpqua Lighthouse State Park to Sunset Bay State Park 34.7 miles +1867 ft

9/25 Sunset Bay State Park to Bandon and Back 52.4 miles +3038 ft

9/26 Sunset Bay State Park to Tenmile Lake County Park 27.5 miles +1563 ft
