We generally do not make the pilgrimage to The John Day National Monument until the Fall.  There is so much to explore in that area that we have decided to head up to the Clarno Unit and explore those roads as well this Spring.  The most significant geologic feature in the Clarno unit are the Palisades (pictured above).  The Palisades which a re volcanic mudflows formed 54-40 mya.  We will be starting our journey here.

Travel time from Bend to Clarno is 1 hr. and 50 minutes.  This ride will start at 10:30 am (it could be a cool morning, dress appropriately).  We can drop a car off (with water and snacks ) in Antelope as we are passing through.  We have a good deal of climbing and it could get very warm.  We can certainly make what we want with this journey.  It is a 30 mile trip to Antelope and back.  If groups wanted to call it a day once they were back at the Clarno unit, that would be great.  This is a ride for everyone and you can go as long as you want at your pace.  As it is an Out and Back Adventure, there will not be any designated leaders.

Be sure to pack plenty of water and snacks for this ride.
