Twickenham Loop
And look for a companion gravel ride to pop up on that same day!

This is definitely one of the more stunning rides in Central Oregon. The Twickenham Loop is a challenging, but beautiful, ride that starts and finishes in Mitchell. It's 66 miles and 6,700 feet of climbing, so it's probably more demanding than most of us prefer. Without a doubt one of the all time great downhills is the Girds Creek Canyon - What a HOOT! We will make the mandatory stop at Service Creek Resort (41.5 miles) to replenish fluids and have a good lunch before those last 3 tough climbs.
If you haven't done it before, here's the best chance you'll likely get because we are hoping for volunteers to drive a SAG vehicle. Please consider allowing your vehicle to be a SAG vehicle.
We'll share driving duties and anyone can hop in for a lift wherever desired, so you can tame this beast any way you want. If you want to skip one or both of the two long climbs out of the John Day River canyon, hop in for a lift. If you want to go until you cry "uncle" then get a lift to the finish line, flag down or call the support vehicle. Or, you can skip the SAG entirely and pedal the entire 66 miles.
Plan on packing snacks to toss into the vehicle and we'll plan a few rally stops along the way to break things up.
Meet at the Mitchell City Park in beautiful downtown Mitchell, ready to ride at 10:00. It's about a 1-3/4 hour drive from Bend, so be sure to leave plenty of time to get there and get ready. I'll send out an email to all registrants before the ride to coordinate carpooling.
The start will be chilly, but it won't be long before we are shedding some skin. Bring plenty of water and fuel for this ride!
This ride is listed as C/D-E, so anyone who can maintain a 12-13 mph pace with 100ft/mile is welcome to join. I was able to do 12.9 m/h for this ride in just over 5 hrs. And yes I am signing up to do it again! Of course, if you want to go faster, you're free to check Strava and give segment leaders a run for their money. Plan on joining the Club in a celebratory beverage at the local brew pub, Tiger Town Brewing Company, before heading home.
Disregard the map this route is all paved!
