This is an off the beaten track gravel route, that takes us up to the Pine Mountain Observatory (6200'), through the Millican Valley (once a very large lake).

Dirty Freehub has a very detailed description of this route.

The first good weather of the week is forecast for Wednesday. A 10:30 am start from the OHV parking lot at Ford Road and Spencer Wells Rd/FS23.  Please arrive early enough for a 10:30 departure.

Pros: Only 30 minutes from Bend. Lots of unpaved riding. You probably haven't ridden this. Lot's of climbing.

Cons: Your ride leader hasn't ridden this. Lot's of climbing.

Difficulty: sustained 7% climb that is a bit gnarly and some sand patches that may require hike-a-bike. (From Dirty Freehub)

Weather. Temps at the start are forecast (5/7) to be in the mid-40s. Not likely to warm up much as we'll be gaining altitude.

Bail Out: At mile 18.3 an alternate route takes Road 2017. Knocks off 500' of climbing and 3 miles.

It's always good to have the route on your Garmin, Wahoo, or phone.

Covid Vaccination required.
