Shorter Poke the Bear Gravel

Ride Classification Leader  GPS My Ride

This is a slightly shorter version of Poke the Bear from Dirty Free Hub. Most of the climbing will be early in the ride, when temperatures are cooler. You will have views of the Cascades from Mt Bachelor to Mt Adams, interesting rock formations, pelicans on a lake, and the last ten miles are 95% downhill, with beautiful views of the mountains. The gravel is in very good shape and 20% of the ride is on pavement.

I am using 700x50mm tires but 40mm will be fine. It is a deserted area with almost no traffic. I previewed the ride last Wednesday and did not see a car or anybody for 25 miles.

You can see pictures of the ride on Dirty Free Hub "Poke the Bear".

The ride starts at Juniper Park in Madras on B Street. You will not see a sign for B Street on Hwy 97, but look for the City Park sign which is on B Street. Going east you will see a sign for Juniper Park but do not turn left there, keep going to the park entrance over the hill. It takes 50 minutes to an hour to drive to Madras depending on where you live in Bend.

We will start at 9:00am to beat the heat and do all the climbing before 11:00 am. I hope to see you there to enjoy this beautiful ride.
