Wallowas Tour

Ride Classification Leader  GPS My Ride
  E/300/Gravel  Ben Groeneveld   Document

This is a 300 mile, five-day cycling tour circling and crossing the Wallowa Mountains in northeastern Oregon. Spectacular snow-capped mountain scenery will be the highlight, but small towns like Halfway, Imnaha, Wallowa, and Cove should also provide memorable experiences.

Overnighting will be at campgrounds with showers. Elevation gain is estimated at 21,000 ft. This route is one-third unpaved. A cross, gravel, or hybrid style bike is recommended. Low gearing will be beneficial on some of the climbs.

Traditionally, we plan to sleep at campgrounds with showers and eat out. Depending on the novel coronavirus pandemic situation, we may need to alter plans. Last year’s tour through the Owyhees was largely self-sufficient relying on cook-stoves and freeze dried food. We are hoping by June to be vaccinated and eating outside and within safety guidelines at local establishments.

Each rider should plan to be self-supported and prepared for inclement weather.
