Twickenham Loop

Ride Classification Leader  GPS My Ride

This is definitely one of the more stunning rides in Central Oregon. If you haven't done it before, here's the best chance you'll likely get because WE'LL HAVE A SUPPORT VEHICLE following us the entire way.

The Twickenham Loop is a challenging, but beautiful, ride that starts and finishes in Mitchell. It's 66 miles and 6,700 feet of climbing, so it's probably more demanding than most of us prefer. But, here's the kicker: We're planning on having at least one support vehicle following us the whole way to even out the challenge for all of us. We'll share driving duties and anyone can hop in for a lift wherever desired, so you can tame this beast any way you want. If you want to skip one or both of the two long climbs out of the John Day River canyon, hop in for a lift. If you want to go until you cry "uncle" then get a lift to the finish line, flag down the support van, toss your bike on, and settle in. Or, you can skip the van entirely and pedal the entire 66 miles.

Of course, you'll be able to pack snacks/lunch to toss into the vehicle and we'll plan a few stops along the way to break things up. Whether you're looking to tackle the entire loop or cut it a bit shorter--plus do it in style without the big cost of a Travel Vacation company--this is your lucky day.

We'll meet at the Mitchell City Park in beautiful downtown Mitchell, ready to ride at 10:00. It's about a 1-3/4 hour drive from Bend, so be sure to leave plenty of time to get there and get ready. I'll send out an email to all registrants before the ride to coordinate carpooling.

This ride is listed as C-D, so anyone who can maintain a 13 mph pace is welcome to join. Of course, if you want to go faster, you're free to check Strava and give segment leaders a run for their money. Eventually, we'll all find the finish line, where all who are interested can join in a celebratory beverage at the local brew pub, Tiger Town Brewing Company, before heading home.
